Library Services

Getting a card

If you live in Garden City, Boise, Eagle, Meridian or in Ada County (excluding Kuna), we can issue you a library card. You will need a photo ID and proof of your current street address. When you come in, it'll take about five minutes per card to enter you into our computer system (so try to avoid coming in at closing time) and then you'll be able to use your card at all of the local public libraries.

When you check out an item from the Garden City Library, the following limits apply:

Using the public computers/Internet

Our library has Internet computers and childrens' computers available on a first-come, first-served access. If you have a library card from any of the local public libraries, you can use a computer for up to two hours each day. If you do not have a library card, but wish to use the Internet, our computers are available for your use for 15 minutes for 25 cents.  Visitor passes can be purchased at our Automated Payment Machine.

Placing holds

If you are at our library and we don't have the item you're looking for, you can easily request it from another local library. You can do this from inside the library, using our catalog computers, or you can place holds through our Online Catalog. Either way, you should use the catalog to look up the item you want and then click the "Place Hold" button. You'll be prompted for your library card barcode and the system will walk you through the process, step by step.
