Volunteer or Donate!

A library is the true heart of the community.

It is the logical place to invest resources designed to nurture individual growth and excellence in Garden City.

At the same time, the services a library provides are the main attraction for most patrons. We try our utmost to provide everything our patrons need, but there is so much more we would like to do for our community. That's where you come in.

There are many opportunities to volunteer at the Garden City Library. Whether you enjoy working on computers, reading stories, or helping people find the information they need, there is a place for you!

Volunteer Opportunities:

Programs

The library offers a wide array of programs throughout the year, and could use a wide variety of help to pull them off. The type of help that we need will change with the programs, so please check back with us often.

Summer Reading Program

Each year, the children of Garden City are invited to a reading adventure that last all summer long! There are games, storytellers, speakers, clowns, and fun times for everyone. Volunteers are crucial to this program. The storytellers, craft or activity leaders, as well as those who register the kids are all volunteers. This is a great opportunity to influence young minds toward a life of reading

Bells for Books

For many years now, this program has served the children of Garden City every summer without fail. The Swiss Cow Bells on the outside of the bus attract the children, but the books, snacks, storytelling, and nurturing provided by our volunteers and staff keep them in the program from year to year. There is also a lot of work behind the scenes that goes on during the winter. Volunteers sort, process, stamp, shelve, and enter information into the computer database.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

We always have need for volunteers to dust shelves, put away books, enter data into our computers, and to help patrons find information.
